This site exists for one reason: most gardening advice is written for people who already garden. It assumes you know what “well-draining soil” means, that you own a soil thermometer, and that you already killed a few plants and learned from it. If you are standing in a garden centre holding a pot and quietly hoping you don’t murder it, that advice is not for you.
What we do differently
Every guide here is written for the first plant, not the fiftieth. That means plain language, honest expectations, and the boring details that actually decide whether a plant lives — how much light your window really gets, how often to water in a dry apartment, and what a struggling plant is trying to tell you.
- Specific, not vague. “Water when the top two inches of soil are dry” beats “water regularly.”
- Honest about difficulty. If a plant is fussy, we say so before you buy it.
- Region-aware. Timing advice is given as ranges tied to your USDA zone and frost dates, not as one date that only works in one state.
- Small-space friendly. Plenty of our readers garden on a balcony, a windowsill, or a fire escape. That counts.
